Are you getting the most out of your team? Could you make some improvements to yours management style? Here are some tips on how you could improve you management style to get the most from your team:
Lead from the front. Don’t ask people to do things you are not prepared to do yourself - e.g. If you ask people to work late, you work late as well. There is no place for ‘do as I say not as I do’.
Show technical competence so people realise that you are there because of your ability
Always stay calm on the outside - even if you are panicking on the inside
Smile and be cheerful as much as you can – the situation will remain the same whether you are happy or miserable. You are at work quite a lot of the time so try to enjoy yourself
Never let other people upset you or rile you - be confident in your own ability
There is a difference between confidence and arrogance - not much - so make sure you are perceived as confident not arrogant
Always display a high degree of integrity and morals
At the end of the day it is about whether people respect you - they do that because you are competent, confident, calm in a crisis and have a high degree of integrity, people don’t have to like you (it helps) but they have to respect you.
