Job description

A newly created role within the finance team, the assistant accountant will take ownership of a variety of key month-end management accounting responsibilities, as well as tax and compliance related work. This role is ideal for an assistant accountant who is eager to gain experience in the management accounting and tax compliance fields.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Month end & balance sheet management
    • Ownership of the balance sheet and income statement of all 7 international entities in the group (excludes UK).
    • Accounting for all sales rebates globally, including calculation on a monthly basis and reviewing rebates in line with performance.
    • Management and preparation of accruals and prepayments for the international entities in the group.
    • Review of entity balance sheets.
    • Ownership of all tax control accounts across the group.
  • Tax & compliance
    • Ownership of all sales tax returns and related accounting, including VAT returns and USA sales tax returns.
    • Assist with the preparation of the UK corporate tax returns.
    • Preparation of ONS returns.
  • Other ad-hoc work, including project related work and year end reporting.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Study towards AAT/ACCA/CIMA - essential
  • Experience managing VAT and USA sales tax - ideal but not essential
  • Methodical approach to tasks who demonstrates a calm demeanour under pressure.
  • Good/advanced excel skills.
  • Sector experience required (retail or consumer goods)
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Detail oriented, constantly challenging and verifying numbers, able to deal with complex issues.
  • Someone who is prepared to be flexible in their role for the benefit of the team.
  • Keen to work within a high growth environment
  • Highly driven individual with a hands-on deck mentality.
