Job description

I am recruiting for an exciting Assistant Management Accountant role working for a well established, growth oriented retail company with plenty of opportunity for development within the position, ideally this will be somebody immediately available.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Month end & balance sheet management
    • Ownership of the inventory balances across the group including the landed costs process for the group, ensuring that landed costs are capitalised to inventory. Regularly updating the landed cost rate card, performing analysis on any rate variances and analysing the landed cost control accounts.
    • Ownership of the balance sheet and income statement of the largest trading entity in the group, including reviewing the income statement and balance sheet on a monthly basis and providing commentary on any significant movements.
    • Reviewing expense claims to ensure compliance with group policy. Performing analysis on travel and subsistence costs, including understanding differences to budget.
    • Performing balance sheet reconciliations for significant accounts in the group and following up on any discrepancies, including bank, inter-company, stock and debtors.
    • Reviewing e-commerce sales, including e-commerce debtors.
    • Reviewing fixed assets and tooling assets, capitalising assets as appropriate and ensuring depreciation is posted.
    • Reviewing the group income statement along with the commercial finance department to analyse any discrepancies and provide commentary.
    • Liaising with auditors for the year-end audit.
  • Taking ownership of accounting related projects, including the automation of the landed costs accounts and other inventory related projects.
  • Other ad-hoc work, including project related work and year end reporting.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Partly qualified accountant with ACCA or CIMA
  • Methodical approach to tasks who demonstrates a calm demeanour under pressure.
  • Good Excel skills.
  • Sector experience will be beneficial (wholesale or consumer goods)
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, constantly challenging and verifying numbers, able to deal with complex issues.
  • Someone who is prepared to be flexible in their role for the benefit of the team.
