The Role
Investigo is partnering with an organisation in the higher education sector that is about to upgrade or replace its current ERP which is based on SAP and covers Finance, HR and Payroll functions. It is in the final stages of compiling an ITT to select an ERP and appoint a preferred implementation partner.
The role reports into the IT Projects Director and is accountable to the projects' sponsors, including the Directors of Finance, HR and IT and the Vice President for Education. Other senior stakeholders will include the COO and President, and this may evolve as the academic model work becomes clearer.

Projects Background
They are a long-term user of SAP ERP and SAP Business Warehouse for core HR, Payroll and Finance functions. Their core usage of these systems has not changed fundamentally since the initial implementation almost 20 years ago. Our current version of SAP is unsupported from 2024 so must migrate to a replacement solution, such as a newer version of SAP or an alternative solution. In line with our IT Strategy this is expected to be a Software as a Service (SaaS) Public Cloud solution.

Job Purpose

  • Provide high-quality support and expertise to the initial implementation planning, management, and delivery of the ERP project
  • Oversee the shaping of the Academic Model Refresh project, including its scope, governance, and initial planning

Experience:

  • Higher Education Experience and SITS experience is a preference
  • Project. Strong experience of managing large-scale ERP and other technology implementations, including managing budgets over £5m and managing diverse stakeholders across an institution at the highest levels
  • Product. A good understanding of current ERP products, their capabilities in Finance, HR and payroll functions, and the associated technologies. A good understanding of the role of student records systems and the data and functions they handle

Deliverables:

  • High-Level Designs. This includes the definition of high-level technical and business designs showing how the core product(s) would fit within City's systems and organisation, such as a high-level technical architecture and target operating model.
  • Project Definition(s). This includes an agreed baseline budget, timeline and scope for the project, as well as the set-up or modification of structures to support project governance and communications.
  • Business Case(s). This includes preparation of a statement of the initial and recurrent costs, tangible and intangible benefits, of acquiring, implementing and embedding the selected product(s) and services.

Main Responsibilities

  • Alongside business leads for HR and Finance, responsible for contributing knowledge and expertise to designing effective and intuitive 'to be' processes to develop and enhance services
  • Responsible for defining, agreeing and putting in place appropriate project governance structures and communication mechanisms to support implementation, including mechanisms to monitor and control progress versus plan, and report to key stakeholders
  • Responsible for preparing and establishing support for an achievable implementation plan, including a clear baseline scope, timeline, resources, dependencies, and agreed approach to ensuring quality
  • Responsible for establishing and leading a multi-disciplinary 'matrix' project team across the Finance, HR and IT functions - guiding, directing and supporting team members as needed to achieve the goals, as well as establishing trusted, influential relationships with project sponsors and key stakeholders.
