Job description

My client is looking for an Infrastructure Architect.

Please note this is 24 month FTC with excellent benefit package

The Infrastructure Architect is expected to take responsibility for the IT infrastructure architecture of existing programmes, providing hands on architecture and design services to meet the changing requirements of the business divisions.

You will be working with the other elements of the enterprise architecture team to ensure business and application architecture are designed to their optimum to meet the needs of change programmes and provide thought leadership on the future direction of the IT infrastructure strategy.

Provide architecture support to strategic IT change projects, ensuring that IT solutions support the objectives of simplifying the IT landscape and reducing total cost of ownership whilst delivering business value.

Specialist Technical Knowledge

IT infrastructure e.g. SAN technologies, networking, Wintel, Linux, zOS.

Cloud technologies e.g. Azure, AWS, SoftLayer.

Database technologies e.g.DB2, Oracle, SQL Server.

Data warehousing and reporting e.g. Business Objects, Ab Initio, SAS.

Application integration with multiple platforms and data sources, e.g. mainframe, mid-range.

IT Service Management.

TOGAF or similar architecture framework.

Specific Experience

Minimum 10 years of relevant IT experience, e.g. Infrastructure Architecture, Technical Architecture.

Experience of infrastructure architecture and design governance best practices.

Proven ability to communicate infrastructure solutions and technology reference models to both technical and business users.

5 years' experience of working within Financial Services, or a similarly regulated industry.

Experience of working in environments with outsourced solution delivery and service partners.

Expected Duties

Utilise expert technical knowledge of infrastructure architecture and design techniques and tools to support the creation of infrastructures to support the business strategies and ensure robust and innovative design of infrastructure architectures.

Actively participate and direct the conception, planning and design of the programmes strategic infrastructure estate to ensure that initiatives are impacted and where appropriate conflict or compromises are escalated to ensure the alignment with the business & IT strategies.

Define, establish and maintain a complete, accurate and reliable repository of all infrastructure architectures designs to support the evaluation, definition and design of new solutions to meet the strategic needs of the IT change programmes

Work with internal IT teams, procurement and IT outsourcing partners to implement robust architecture governance processes which will ensure that infrastructure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements and comply with Group Technology architecture principles, standards and policies.

Work with internal and external bodies to maintain an up to date view of the emerging infrastructure technologies so that they can be exploited to support the future direction and requirements of the Group Technology.

Work with senior client/user management to define technology strategies, drawing up design artefacts, conducting feasibility studies, producing high level and detailed infrastructure solutions, which will have a measurable impact on the profitability and effectiveness of the requirements.

Deliver effective communication to influence and maintain positive working relationships with all interested parties including stakeholders and divisional directors, managed service providers, and external suppliers to support effective decision-making in relation to strategic infrastructure architecture decisions.

Comply with agreed methodology, standards, policies and procedures to ensure strong governance, sharing knowledge and providing feedback and ideas so that performance is continually improved.
