Learning Designers - Higher Education (Masters Level)
Contract - Multiple positions available
2 months initially, but likely to extend + programmes to move onto
Remote working (both during & post lockdown, permanently remote team)
Up to £230pd
ASAP start - Interviews to be held via Teams
No PSCs will be considered (umbrella/PAYE only please)

About the job
Reporting to the Head of Academic Services the Learning Designer works within a multidisciplinary team of UX/UI designers, technical specialists and digital content specialists to support Universities to develop and deliver academic programmes within fully online and digitally rich environments.
The Learning Designer will play a key role in providing expert guidance on the design of online and blended learning opportunities that are underpinned by research informed and pedagogically proven practices. Through workshops, co-creation events and one to one consultation you will support Academics to make curriculum design choices that will shape innovative, engaging and challenging digitally rich programmes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the Lead Learning Designer in the scoping planning and implementation of learning design activities.
  • Employ appropriate consultation and facilitation techniques to support the implementation of agreed learning designs within identified academic programmes
  • Utilise identified evaluation approaches to promote continuous improvement
  • Design and contribute to the development of curriculum, assessment and technical prototypes.
  • Support the smooth transfer of identified learning design plans to the content development and production team.
  • Provide internal subject matter expertise in Learning Design to promote knowledge and skill development within the team and with clients


About you

  • Experience of developing online learning/courses at FE/HE level
  • Experience of supporting curriculum change/renewal projects
  • Proven expertise in the use of core learning technologies used in higher education (e.g. VLE, e-portfolio)
  • You will have experience of working within the higher education environment and an appreciation of the culture and norms of Universities
  • Take a very flexible approach to work, thrive in a dynamic working environment and manage multiple projects and priorities
  • You will be an excellent communicator, able to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues, but also able to work independently.


Education, qualification and training:

  • Educated to at least first degree level and have professional experience Learning Design / Technology Enhanced Learning or another closely related field.
  • HEA Associate Fellowship or Fellowship (UKPSF Descriptor 1 or 2) or CMALT
  • Evidence of professional development (formal and informal) and the ability to identify future development needs.
