Job description

As the Regional Finance Director, you will play a critical part in the leadership team while supporting and contributing to the National UK Bus finance strategy, the Arriva Group-wide strategy and programmes. Reporting to the Finance Director - UK Bus, this position will play a pivotal role in building and shaping comprehensive and professional Finance services to UK Bus.

This role will further support the development of the Financial Strategy and Tender process, own key financial information locally, produce and model accurate financial information while overseeing the production of the annual budget and forecasts for the area. In this position you will ensure the business delivers its shareholder, stakeholder and legal objectives in accordance with the strategic business plan and contractual requirements. Additionally, you will oversee all financial reporting, audits, compliance and procurement & ICT activity while providing the business with management information, analysis, advice and the challenge to maximise profits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning - Develop and define the optimum operating model to sustain business operating profit in a challenging market.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budgets, providing financial assessments to support strategic business decisions
  • Improve the business's ability to respond quickly to market changes through the consistent use and continued development of new and existing financial systems and processes
  • Appraisal and review - provide financial appraisals for tender submissions, investment and capital expenditure opportunities
  • Support internal and external teams as required during the due diligence process while offering advice, information and reports to support strategic business decisions
  • Service delivery - to deliver timely and accurate financial information to the senior and local management teams to support the day-to-day operations and delivery of the strategic business plan
  • Make full and proper use of Arriva's finance Shared Service function to ensure accurately period and annual accounts and reports are produced.
  • Undertake analysis of business performance against budget and provide financial information for depot teams to drive profitability
  • Organisational development - support change throughout the business by working in partnership and promoting the Shared Service model
  • Role-model excellent leadership and customer focused behaviours by building local internal financial business capabilities with regional senior management team
  • Provide direction to Shared Services, Payroll, Insurance, Risk and IT teams ensuring timely accurate provision of reporting, internal and external audit compliance and efficient effective business services

It is essential that you are a qualified and experienced Finance Director who has experience of working on complex long term contracts as well as a track record of playing a lead role in bids and tenders. A high degree of interpersonal and influencing skills are required as well as strong political awareness due to the high profile nature of this UK industry. It is important that you can demonstrate first class commercial awareness and working closely with operations.
