SAP Release Engineer Tooling and Methods (Solman Focus Build)


Working in the SAP Enablement Platform as part of the Release Management team you will have a key role being part of the team, leading and responsible for defining the policy covering end to end testing for SAP change. Engaged throughout the development of testing strategy including all tooling for SAP engineered products which may span multiple platforms and domains. Challenging the normal approach and providing alternatives for improvement. You will work closely with Technical Release Engineers and product build team stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall delivery needs.

Engagement Purpose

  • Working within the SAP Enablement Platform as part of the Release Management team you will be a key part of the team defining, maintaining and supporting the approach for ALM tooling, methods and configuration management primarily using the SAP Solution Manager framework. This is a vital part of the ALM capabilities providing the rails and underpinning the effective build, release, deploy and support for our SAP application software components. You will work closely with Technical Release Engineers and product build team stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall delivery needs.



Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own the definition, configuration and maintenance and in some cases the execution of Focus build process's e.g. WP WI lifecycles, transports lifecycle, master and build projects, release cycles, retrofit approach, dual track approach, change control landscapes etc. Coordinates release content and consults on efficient and effective sequencing and scheduling of transports.
  • Work closely to inform and support the users of the Solman framework specifically the product build teams, delivery leads, technical release engineers, technical cutover engineers, SAP Basis team so that they understand current process's and ways of working.
  • Ensures that there is defined and monitored KPI data to support continuous improvement activity. E.g. Release progress reporting - measures and metrics KPIs
  • Actively keeps up to date with technical development and configuration management approaches to assess value in implementing
  • Engage with key stakeholders - solution architects, agile build teams, SAP Basis, SAP Vendor, Technical Release Engineer, Technical Cutover Engineer
  • Focus on automation to speed up delivery
  • Actively work with to support release planning and technical cutover run book reviews and plans.
  • Ensure SAP landscape management validation, synchronization and stabilization in coordination with the Delivery leads, platform architects and scrum masters
  • Enabling the tracking the test progress of Work Items/Work Packages testing during different phases (Pre Int, Integration, BRT, OAT and Performance) with respective test teams - Release Readiness
  • Helps to drive the use and development of scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
  • Researches new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs
  • Pro-actively analyses current processes and practices, suggesting and driving improvements to the promotional model.
  • Mentors and guides junior staff to build overall capability within the department.
  • Is results oriented and has a high degree of accountability, commitment and responsibility.



Experience

  • 5 or more years of SAP release engineering experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • SME in structured software release processes and procedures
  • 3-5 years' practical S4Hana engineering experience
  • 3-5 years' experience with Charm in Focus build and Solution Manager
  • SME level understanding SAP CTS Process, experience operating in a Dual Track environment with Retrofit in place.
  • Practical experience of SAP product upgrade processes.
  • Ability to work with teams, to influence, to co-operate, to collaborate are essential key skills to get teams working at outstanding levels
  • Strong communication skills across all levels
  • Self-Management is a key attribute expected for this role. Being able to work without the need for follow up or too much management is important.
