Software Developer - Central London - Education/Publishing
Business Unit: Technology
Start Date: ASAP (ideally by 18th Nov)
Until end of March '20 initially (view to extend)
£500-600pd

Role Overview:

  • The business are looking for a Developer to work within their Core Assessment team (CTO), who can understand the business requirements and interpret these to the tech team to ensure it's in-line with what each business area needs.
  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure will be beneficial, as will someone with good communication skills as they'll be owning the relationships with each product owner.
  • Previous experience working on a Global transformation programme, dealing with software offshore-resources within will be key.
  • Interview process will be 1 stage (via conference call), ideal start date will be 18th November - allowing for a 2-week hand over with the working who's going on Maternity cover.

Role Description:
Understand the business requirements and interpret these to the tech team to ensure it's in-line with what each business area needs.

  • Contribute to standards and best practices around development processes, coding, and peer reviews.
  • Optimize existing systems to improve performance and scalability through service/application tuning and code refactoring.
  • Fully and properly test code to ensure the highest levels of reliability and maintainability.
  • Research and recommend software solutions and tools that help fix inefficiencies in the development process, team collaboration, etc.
  • Help lead and drive development operations initiatives.
  • Provide assistance to CM, QA and support personnel as needed to troubleshoot lower environment as well as production issues.
  • Resolves customer complaints and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
  • Participates in the development of software user manuals.

Additional Job Details:

  • This role will be to manage our Fabric Service Layer team, sitting between core capabilities and new applications in transformative value-orientated projects for the UK Quals business.
  • This will be built using a combination of languages and technologies, all hosted in AWS utilising a new DevOps pipeline.

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Background in software development, with proven experience in complex integration projects and working with multiple teams.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, and in a governance role to ensure processes and architectures are being followed.


Minimum Education Requirement:

  • Good degree in a Software Engineering / Computing related field OR demonstrable equivalent understanding of core computer concepts (design patterns, computer language skills, etc.)
