Job description

Investigo are currently partnered with a leading energy consultancy who are looking for a technical accountant to join their growing finance team.

Role Definition

  • Preparation of consolidated annual statutory accounts under IFRS and holding company statutory accounts under FRS 101.
  • Preparation of technical accounting papers for any new accounting issues that arise during the year. Assess, document and quantify the impact of the issue, reporting findings to senior management and making recommendations where neede
  • Key point of contact for auditors. Liaise with auditors on accounting issues to ensure no issues at year-end.
  • Maintain and developIFRS 16 reporting requirements.
    • IFRS 16 was adopted in the year ended 31 March 2020 accounts and is now included in our monthly reporting. The Technical Accountant is responsible for producing the monthly IFRS 16 data from the lease database. This reporting requires ongoing maintenance and development, such as supporting BUs with new leases, modifications and judgement areas and providing training on how to use the lease database. The Technical Accountant is the lease database super-user.
  • Maintain and developIFRS 9 andIFRS 15 reporting requirements.
    • IFRS 9 and IFRS 15 were adopted for year ended 31 March 2019; the IFRS 9 ECL models for trade receivables need to be updated annually; ongoing compliance with IFRS 15 will need to be demonstrated to the auditors.
  • Support the Head of Group Reporting with preparation of the group's annual goodwill impairment models and associated technical papers for the auditors.
  • Acquisitions:
    • technical accounting: Purchase Price Accounting, including recognition of intangibles and opening balance sheet review.
    • Support Finance staff with the transition to company accounting policies (including adoption of IFRS 9, 15 and 16)
  • Provide support to Business Units preparing local statutory accounts under IFRS / FRS 101.
  • Provide training and guidance to Business Units, including development of our internal Finance Manual which documents our policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Group Tax and Group Treasury team on special projects e.g. changes to group structure, holding company closures.

Skills required

  • ACA accountancy qualification.
  • Strong IFRS technical background.
  • Confidence to debate technical points with auditors, to ensure that we meet the requirements of the Standards but also achieve the best and most practical result for the business.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good excel skills - ability to consolidate and analyse large amounts of data in multiple currencies
  • Attention to detail and ability to self-check work.
  • Process driven.
  • Excellent organisational skills. Ability to take ownership of an assignment, work independently and self-manage to ensure deadlines are met.
