Financial Controller

Growing International Business - Northampton

Salary Circa £75k

About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Financial Controller to join our rapidly expanding mid-sized business based in Northampton. Having doubled in size with continued strong growth trajectory, we need a strategic finance professional to lead our financial operations and drive the business forward through its next phase of international expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts and financial reports to senior leadership
  • Oversee year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, international accounting standards, and statutory requirements
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls and procedures across all business functions
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury functions for international operations
  • Lead budget preparation and quarterly forecasting processes

International Trade & Operations

  • Manage multi-currency transactions and foreign exchange risk
  • Oversee international trade finance, letters of credit, and export documentation
  • Ensure compliance with international tax obligations and transfer pricing requirements
  • Support business development initiatives with financial analysis and modeling

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a small finance team, providing mentorship and career progression opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with operations, sales, and procurement teams
  • Drive process improvements and system implementations to support business growth
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Partner with senior management on strategic initiatives and business development
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making for expansion opportunities
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements across financial processes
  • Support due diligence activities for potential acquisitions or partnerships

Essential Requirements:

Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification
  • Strong background in financial controls, reporting, and team management
  • Experience with international trade finance and multi-currency operations preferred
  • Proven track record in a growing business environment

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of UK tax legislation and international compliance requirements
  • Experience with management reporting and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of export/import procedures and documentation
