Job description
Financial Controller
Rugby | £50m+ Turnover | Hybrid (2-3 days onsite) | Circa £70k
About My Client
I'm thrilled to be working with a genuinely impressive business that's doing things differently. With a turnover exceeding £50m and a culture that people actually rave about, my client has built something special-a workplace where talented people thrive, processes evolve constantly, and finance plays a strategic role in driving success. Add to this their strong social impact agenda, and you've got a business worth being part of.
The Role
I'm recruiting for a Financial Controller who'll be the day-to-day leader of the finance department, managing a team of 7 finance professionals and reporting into an exceptional CFO. This isn't a box-ticking role-it's your opportunity to shape processes, develop your team, and genuinely make your mark.
My client needs someone who understands that great finance leadership is as much about people as it is about the numbers.
Day to Day, You'll
Lead & Develop
- Build and inspire a high-performing finance team of 7, coaching them to reach their potential
- Be the go-to leader for day-to-day finance operations
- Create an environment where your team feels valued and motivated
Drive Improvement
- Own and transform the month-end close process-making it slicker and more efficient
- Identify and implement process improvements across financial accounting, reporting, and controls
- Lead systems optimisation projects to enhance efficiency
- Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely, and adds real commercial value
Partner & Influence
- Work alongside the CFO on strategic initiatives and business partnering
- Provide commercial insights that drive better decision-making
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business
What I'm Looking For
Must-Haves
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Solid Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager experience in a similar-sized business
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with genuine enthusiasm for process improvement
- Proven people management skills-you've developed teams and individuals successfully
- Systems-savvy with experience driving improvements (ERP experience is a big plus)
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
The Ideal Candidate
- Gets genuinely excited about developing people, not just perfecting spreadsheets
- Thrives in dynamic, growing businesses where every day brings something different
- Sees processes as opportunities to innovate
- Wants to work somewhere with real purpose and positive social impact
- Values culture and environment as much as career progression
What's On Offer
Competitive salary that reflects your experience
Performance bonus scheme
Generous pension contribution
Hybrid working - 2- 3 days in Rugby office, flexibility for the rest
Career development - genuine growth opportunities
Outstanding culture - this is the real deal, not corporate spin
Purpose-driven business - making a positive social impact
Great social environment - team events and activities
