Job description

Investigo are delighted to be partnering with a PE backed scale-up business in their search for an Interim Financial Controller whilst they recruit the permanent solution. Ideally the candidate will have experience of working for PE backed companies (SaaS or tech) and be immediately available.

The Group Financial Controller role is responsible for the integrity and timeliness of processes and reporting, giving reliable information to the CFO at the right level of detail. They should have experience of managing a finance team and an interest in helping other teams across the business achieve their goals. They should be able to define and run clear and helpful processes which facilitate rather than block but not be afraid to reject a request when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Management of operational finance team
    • (i) Lead, manage and develop the Operational Finance team, providing direction and influence that ensures the team has the required capacity, capability, resilience, processes and systems to deliver its objectives
    • (ii) Team of 8 including Reporting, AP, AR, Stock, Systems, payroll reporting and compliance
  • Responsible for financial and tax reporting
    • (i) Oversee the annual finance timetable, encompassing but not limited to monthly management accounts, annual budgets, forecasts, regulatory and stakeholder returns as required
    • (ii) Manage team preparing month end and management packs
    • (iii) Responsible for tax reporting - eg PAYE, VAT, R&D tax credits
    • (iv) Ownership of statutory accounts reporting including liaison with the auditor
    • (v) Appropriate robust processes and control to manage without blocking growth
  • Financial systems and processes
    • (i) Manage systems analyst for Netsuite and Zuora
    • (ii) Identify improvements and tools to make the process more efficient
    • (iii) Prepare the processes and systems for global scaling and future M&A
    • (iv) Provide oversight of an effective and robust financial internal control environment
    • (v) Support the Head of Commercial Finance during business planning, budget setting and ongoing forecasting, ensuring the processes and systems are in place to track actuals against plan
  • Suppliers and purchasing
    • (i) Own all purchasing policies and approvals including expenses and cards
    • (ii) Negotiation of key contracts
    • (iii) Digital voucher stock purchasing
    • (iv) Identify areas for cost control and reduction
  • Customers & billing
    • (i) Zuora billing system
    • (ii) Partner billing
    • (iii) Customer queries
    • (iv) Credit control including legal process
  • Payroll
    • (i) UK, Australia payrolls and remote employees
    • (ii) Commissions reporting
    • (iii) Share options - EMI reporting
  • International operations - France, Australia and other regions as appropriate
    • (i) Local reporting, banks, payment processor relationships
    • (ii) Local accounting, tax and legal support
    • (iii) Manage growth with suppliers and customers

Requirements

You will have solid experience of defining and managing robust finance processes and being known for reporting reliable information in a growing business. You'll be passionate about making finance approachable and easy to do business with. You'll love the idea of collaborating with all areas of the business and being the person that everyone can trust to help them get things done properly.

You'll need to be comfortable managing your own time and prioritising across a range of activities. Working at a scale up in this stage of growth can involve changing deadlines, unexpected requests and variety in work so you'll need to be someone who can adapt, be flexible and change priorities where needed. You will enjoy guiding and mentoring your team so they can develop and grow in their roles, while performing at a high level.

Essential

  • 5 years PQE Qualified accountant, familiar with UK mid sized standards
  • Personable and collaborative approach to resolving issues

  • Growth company experience - improving existing systems and processes
  • Experience with different accounting systems
  • Experience of managing team of 10, with 3-4 direct reports
