Job description

The role:

Position: Group Accountant
Location: UK - London / hybrid

Company Summary:

A travel retailer who are going through an exciting period of change across the group and require some additional support while they build out a new team.

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Group Accountant will be responsible for preparation of financial accounts, consolidated reporting, and statutory compliance for the Group of companies. The business unit is currently going through a period of finance transformation, which means that you will be at the heart of implementing and delivering automation within all financial systems and processes. You'll be working collaboratively across the business to support this innovation and change.
Key areas for the role:

  • Assist with the production of consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial, statutory, and regulatory reporting deliverables to both internal and external stakeholders in compliance with IFRS.
  • Maintain and enhance the financial control environment with regards to Group consolidation reporting activities and the broader financial control framework.
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements & assist with the external audit.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the timely and accurate delivery of monthly group management accounts for the board.
  • Review the balance sheets of various entities across the Group and ensure accurate and up-to-date balance sheet reconciliations are produced and maintained.
  • Support the timely delivery of the Group's financial statements and disclosures, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Preparing technical accounting memos in line with IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Ensure all FX movements in the ledger are correctly calculated and explained.
  • Assist the Accounting team in operating entities with any queries on accounting treatment in line with IFRS.
  • Assist the Head of Tax with maintenance and implementation of group transfer pricing policy.
  • Assist the Treasury team with short-term and long-term group cash reporting and forecasts.
  • Assist in the intercompany reconciliation process.
  • Assist with the external audit process ensuring all requests for information are provided on a timely basis for the European shared service entities.
  • Any other duties and ad-hoc as requested by the Group Financial Controller.

Experience and skills:

  • Technically first class and forward thinking with up-to-date knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements.
  • Be highly numerate, with the ability to process financial data quickly and with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbally and written), and with a team focus.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
  • You will work effectively and collaboratively across multiple finance teams/departments.
  • Ability to organise/prioritise work in and around deadlines, workloads, and conflicting priorities.
  • Bring a positive, enthusiastic, and 'can-do' attitude to work.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • 2-3 years' PQE, ideally in similar roles
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Good knowledge of SAP and Hyperion advantageous
