Town Planning Manager (freelance contract)

The Development Team has a number of proposals that will transform their town centre and see various new developments including an array of infrastructure projects to support the high level of growth taking place. They have a five-year housing land supply in place and strong housing delivery, including a programme of direct build Council housing. Preparation of the new Local Plan is well-progressed and the organisation are determined to ensure that the district will see great improvements with place-making firmly on the agenda.

You will lead a team responsible for determining the largest and most complex applications in the Borough and providing the Council's response to development in their Development Company.

Your job will be to ensure that the development coming forward is co-ordinated and the overall outcome is better than the sum of its parts. You will need to ensure that local communities benefit from the opportunities that new development brings but, also, that the valued elements of the local environment are protected and enhanced.

The organisation are looking for an experienced Planner with strong professional skills and experience of dealing with very large and complex developments. Experience of responding to masterplans and design and layout of large-scale developments is required, including familiarity with high density urban developments. You will be an effective leader, with clear vision, strong negotiating skills and the ability to develop good partnership working. The council has a strong track record as an enabling Borough: you will be able to maintain the effectiveness of the team in responding constructively, consistently and speedily to development proposals and achieving improved outcomes.
