The role:

We are currently seeking an experienced Medical Underwriter to join my clients Medical Underwriting department in the Customer Services division. Ideal candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years of Life/medical underwriting experience and hold a current underwriting authority of at least £600,000 for Life, £300,000 for Critical Illness, along with a proficient understanding of disability benefits, including Income Protection.


Expectations for the role include:

Demonstrated proficiency in handling Income Protection, Life, Critical Illness, and disability products.
Rendering fair and unbiased underwriting decisions by appropriately evaluating the necessary evidence.
Evaluating all applications not accepted by our online underwriting engine, including initial applications, additional information, and amendments. Additionally, assessing medical evidence received from third-party sources.
Conducting assessments promptly, adhering to agreed Service Level Agreements, and always considering the customer and our reputation.
Providing a telephone service for pre-sale inquiries, serving as the primary contact for advisers seeking to place business with us. Supplying accurate indications of underwriting decisions and collaborating with Sales to establish us as the preferred provider for advisers.
Possessing general knowledge of insurance industry codes and current practices.
Collaborating with Customer Services, Sales, and reinsurance partners when necessary, representing the Medical Underwriting department positively and collaboratively.
Developing a comprehensive understanding of the business and contributing to overall 'best practices' for the benefit of our customers and colleagues.
Demonstrating innovation, forward-thinking, and the ability to identify opportunities for improvements in our philosophy, processes, and procedures.
Exhibiting strong lateral thinking and proactive problem-solving skills, along with sound decision-making abilities and the capacity to recognize and appropriately manage risks, escalating when necessary.
Displaying role model behaviours consistent with company values, possessing excellent organizational and time management skills, and demonstrating reliability and flexibility.


What we're looking for:

Essential:

Qualification: Minimum GCSEs or equivalent
Experience: At least 3 years medical underwriting assessment experience with appropriate authority levels

Qualification: Degree or equivalent CII qualification
