SC cleared Content Designer - GDS standards & assessments - GOV.UK style guide

A major central government organisation is seeking a SC cleared Content Designer to join them on an initial 2 month contract, outside IR35.

The role will be fully remote until returning to the office part-time, if extended.

Candidates must have an active SC clearance, used within the last 12 months, and unexpired.

What you'll be doing:

  • Create, test and iterate content to meet user needs across digital and offline channels
  • Write microcopy, including button text, form labels and error messages
  • Create accessible content, considering accessibility from the start
  • Work with user researchers to analyse data and research
  • Develop content guidelines, style guides and best practice
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts
  • Know how and when to challenge content
  • Carry out content reviews and make recommendations
  • Content strategy
  • Use prototyping and wireframing methods, working with UX designers
  • Contribute to the creation of sitemaps, user flows and customer journey maps, working with UX designers
  • Communicate design ideas and prototypes to developers
  • Set approaches for projects in collaboration with other members of the team
  • Be an advocate for user-centred design

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience as a content designer, content strategist, UX designer or similar role
  • Familiar with working to the Service Standard, with the Service Manual and passing Service Assessments
  • Experience of working to the GOV.UK style guide
  • Experience of user-centred content design and mapping content to user needs
  • Proficient in writing clear content for a range of digital and offline channels
  • Experience of using design systems, and tone of voice and style guides
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of managing relationships with stakeholders
  • Familiarity with user research and analytics data
  • Familiarity with information architecture (IA), wireframes and prototypes
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Agile experience and working in a multidisciplinary team
