Context:

My retail client's Buy/Pay channel strategy project is a Global initiative within Indirect procurement. Its purpose is to implement best-in-class buying and paying channels appropriate for each sub-category of spend to; reduce rogue spend, Iincrease compliance to contracts, increase in touchless transactions, takeout tactical work, on-board fewer one-off suppliers, translate category strategies into category cards and ensure associated system content is available to purchase against.

The project forms part of a broader transformation program within the procurement area.

Project Management:

Planning, driving, and monitoring the workstreams within Buy/Pay Channel Strategy Project:

  • Buy/pay channel

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages an assigned Project, working with the various stakeholders. Owns the processes for meeting cadence, work stream reviews, documentation, highlight risks and interdependencies, monitor milestones, etc. to ensure project deliverables are implemented to plan.
  • Manages the project team (includes process owners, developers both internal and 3rd party), monitors and controls all required project activities.
  • Creates and maintains the Project Stakeholder Engagement Strategy
  • Maintains the overall assigned Project Plan ensuring that the plan appropriately reflects key interdependencies and external dependencies. Ensures that the plan is managed effectively and offers a strategic view of the program.
  • Manage the Project Risk and Issue Management process. Ensures that there is a robust process for tracking and reporting risks and issues and that program-level risks and issues are communicated and managed appropriately.
  • Implements and manages a project Benefits Management process, including identification, measurement and realization of benefits. Regularly reports on realized benefits to the Program Manager.
  • Maintains the project level Business Case
  • Monitors the project budget and controls project spent to targets
  • Works with a change manager to implement a robust Change Control process including documentation. Documents clear accountability at the project level for decision making and approvals in a defined Stage Gates process.
  • Implements a robust Quality Management and Assurance process defined on the Program level
  • Implements effective process for sharing project knowledge and documents with the appropriate stakeholders
  • Helps develop improved project management skills in the program through consultancy, assurance, training and intervention.

Required Skills:

  • Expert in project management supported by strong attention to details. Desired: MSP or PgMP certifications/PRINCE2/PMP
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in working in a project and/or program environment, preferred at a global level
  • Influencing without authority
  • Ability to navigate in the client's environment (matrix organization, with no top down tell)
  • Experience within procurement function and with procurement systems i.e. SAP and SAP Ariba preferable
  • Experience coaching and educating project teams to strengthen team members' capabilities and skill sets.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English

Reporting:

The buy/pay channel project manager will report to the Global Process Director for Requisition to Receipt in the wider Source to Pay Global Process Organization.
