Systems Administrator
Initial 3 month contract - £350 per day (inside IR35) - 2-3 days per week from London office
Our London based Not-for-profit client have an immediate requirement for a Systems Administrator to join on an initial 3 month basis. This role will sit closely with the Network & Systems Manager and work on a range of tasks and projects.
Purpose of the Systems Administrator role:
- Identify, investigate and resolve capacity, performance and security issues related to IT infrastructure, including VPN, storage and the data centre
- Assist with the planning and implementation of projects to build and operate a scalable and fault tolerant infrastructure
- Investigate, diagnose, progress and action operation events and requests from the service desk, in line with standard operation procedures
- Undertake site visits as and when for the purposes of incident, problem and change management
Key responsibilities for the Systems Administrator:
- Administration, maintenance and support of the IT infrastructure.
- Ensure full documentation exists for all new and existing IT projects, systems and applications, including policies and procedures, architecture and implementation documents in support of the IT Strategy.
- Network and WAN operations carried out to prescribed SLAs and stated service schedules via proactive monitoring, bandwidth management and operational coordination.
- Proactively manage Active Directory, making sure it is clean, organised and optimised. Complete any requested changes having a security implication in a timely manner.
- Monitor, alert and report on any unsolicited access or attempted modifications to servers and workstations.
- Proactively interrogate server, and address performance issues and bottlenecks, or make recommendations for change to service.
- Ensure all requests and incidents are resolved in accordance with established SLA's.
- Undertake project implementation activities.
- Escalation of issues to 3rd Party services into IT Services, e.g. Internet Service Providers, Telephony Vendors, Managed Service provider; ensuring SLAs are adhered to and service improvement plans are applied.
- Compliance with agreed Backup SLA, schedule and supporting procedures, to maintain data integrity.
- Communicate courteously and effectively with non-IT and IT specialists to ensure customer service standards are successfully met.
- Take full professional responsibility as an IT specialist and will be accountable for all decisions taken.
Skills and knowledge required for the Systems Administrator
- Proven work experience in a network and systems engineer support role.
- Strong knowledge and hand on-experience of the following technologies: VPN (Cisco), TCP/IP, DNS, Active Directory, LAN, WAN, SMTP, DHCP, Wireless 802.11abgn, VOIP
- Ability to support and configure CISCO and HP switches / routers.
- Microsoft server stack: Server 2016, 2012 & 2008 , Exchange 2012
- Recognised certification e.g. CCNA, MCSA in relevant technologies.
- ITIL Foundation v2 or v3 certified.
- Producing systems documentation & training notes.
- Ability to define and interpret business requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Keep up to date with technology advancements, with demonstrated appreciation and comprehension of the corresponding benefits, risks and implications.
