Job description

Investigo are supporting a FMCG business with the recruitment for a Commercial Analyst.

The role is to develop commercial models and produce timely and accurate reports that deliver useful business insights to support the UK sales, marketing and management teams in planning and steering the business towards sustained, profitable sales growth. Manage and develop the BI developer to ensure that the reporting capability adds value and evolves to meet changing business requirements.

The main responsibilities are as follows:

To coach, manage and support development of BI developer in line with the businesses High Performing Organisation strategy, and Employee Performance and Development Process.

Support the UK business management cycle by timely and accurate delivery of all regular UK sales reports and strategic sales KPIs for the UK management pack. Continually monitor to ensure relevance. The post-holder is expected to become proficient in using reporting tools both in UK and at Group.

Analyse actual sales (NSV, volume, and AGM) vs. budget, prior year and forecast, by customer, product, price and fx. Ask for and collate feedback from the sales team, and sense-check this to ensure that performance is understood. Identify trends and interpret these into insights on risks and opportunities, including vs inventory and product availability. Make practical recommendations to mitigate or capture these at sales & marketing and S&OP meetings.

Provide pro-active support and business insight to sales teams around customer and product opportunities and initiatives, ensuring P&L impact is clear.

Monitor and provide insights on development in return on trade spend and promotional investments.

Recommend any changes to UK sales reporting and forecast tools, and the way these are used, to better meet business requirements. Control implementation of changes.

Be accountable for timely availability of UK sales out, eShop and shopper/market data, e.g. GfK.

Monitor sales accruals and right of return balance to substantiate the amount held against commitments and risks, and identify any potential surplus or shortfall.

Facilitate the annual budgeting process for sales (volume, NSV and standard gross margin), by customer, product and month, including:

  • Ensuring forecasting and reporting tools are prepared to allow building and review of the plan.
  • Providing reports and analysis to challenge the numbers during the budgeting process.

Prepare information for monthly UK commercial review, quarterly EMEA business review, and periodic update of year end SBA sales estimate, including risks and opportunities.

You must need..

  • Experience working in an analytical role within a Commercial, Finance, Sales or marketing environment, able to clearly articulate the personal impact they have made, and show analytical and strategic thinking.
  • Experience using sales reporting and BI systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills - comfortable handling large data sets. Experienced using Excel to structure and solve business problems, and to build tools for use by others.
