The opportunity

After recently delivering on an interim project for Amnesty International, I am delighted to be exclusively partnering them once again to secure this business-critical hire. This is a fantastic time to join the organisation as they continue to drive seismic change throughout the business. This includes culture, systems, service improvement and reform of its People and Organisational Development (POD) programme, which supports managers on all people engagement issues.

As the Director of People and Organisational Development, your will support the Coalition Leadership Team and advise the International Secretariat on people-focused solutions which add value and meet the needs of the organisation on all people engagement services, including general HR, recruitment and resourcing, pay and reward, learning and development, diversity and inclusion, internal communications, organisational development and knowledge management.

You will be a key member of the Deputy Secretary General management team. Bringing specialist support and proactively contributing to the wider organisational planning, development and delivery of professional services, you will enable the International Secretariat to attract, engage and retain top talent in the UK and across our international and regional offices.

Reporting into the Secretary General, you will be the number one in the HR function with seven direct reports and responsibility for a function of 20 staff FTE.

What do you need to be successful?

  • Educated to degree level, FCIPD or other post graduate qualification in human resources or equivalent specialist experience.
  • Extensive experience of operating in a similar role which has international HR exposure across a multitude of locations. This includes detailed knowledge of UK and international employment law.
  • Significant experience of working with senior managers and advising a senior leadership team on unique and complex people issues, adopting solutions that are focused on balancing organisational and individual needs.
  • Extensive experience of negotiating and consulting with trade union representatives on complex employee relations issues.
  • Significant experience of leading on and managing organisational change programmes on an international and geographically dispersed basis.
  • Experience of working at a senior management level in a complex multi-site, global, unionised environment.
  • Experience of introducing diversity and inclusion initiatives that focus on promoting and embedding anti-discrimination and anti-racist practices and ways of working.
  • Experience of recruiting, leading and developing a team. Able to communicate and bring others along with the vision.
  • Experience of researching, preparing and presenting reports on complex reward issues and explaining complex issues to different audiences.
  • A flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload, and multiple complex issues and tasks, in a changing environment with tight deadlines.
  • Resourceful and innovative with strong experience of understanding organisational priorities and challenges, and delivering effective outcomes.
