Job description


Our client are recruiting for a Group Financial Controller. You can work from home but ideally spend at least 1 day a week in the office. They need someone to start asap, so temp to perm is an option too.


The role will lead a small central finance team and oversee overall finance operations under the Director of Finance. You will be the key support for the Director of Finance to drive finance and operational efficiency across the function, divisions and business as a whole.


The role requires strong technical financial control, a mind-set of continuous improvement, as well as the ability to create meaningful insights from financial and other data. You need to have the skill and gravitas that people will come to you for guidance, the experience to back that up as well as a passion for charities.


You will provide leadership on the right financial controllership to ensure the results of the business are properly recorded and the assets of the business protected.


Key Duties


Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee all Financial Planning & Analysis activity including:
    • Support management of the planning process including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis.
    • Delivery of final month end reporting including provision of insightful commentary & financial analysis of financial metrics to enhance and improve performance and aide decision-making.
    • Participating in cross-functional projects as a financial representative.
    • Actively participate in identifying risks and opportunities vs objectives.
    • Conducting business analysis of new programmes and services.


Board and senior management reporting

  • Lead the preparation of the monthly results, quarterly forecasts and the annual budget for Trustee and Risk & Audit Committees approval giving visibility on financial information.
  • Prepare Audit Committee and Trustees finance related papers, including finance risk register.
  • Provide the Finance Director with detailed exception reporting from the results and across finance.
  • Deputise for the Director of Finance as required.
  • Support the Finance Director to develop opportunities for optimising existing business processes.


Technical Accounting and day to day

  • Accountable for evaluating, reconciling and resolving accounting transactions and contracts under SORP
  • Responsible for consolidation and documentation of transactions between group entities.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the group's statutory accounts and CQC reporting.
  • Lead the coordination and completion of external and internal audits, prompt follow up of issues.
  • Review of revenue and financial ledger systems and set remediation actions on issues found.
  • Ensures compliance accounting policies and procedures, and that adequate systems and procedures are in place to provide control, safeguarding of assets and the efficient execution of financial activities.
  • Provides leadership for the monthly/quarterly close, account reconciliations, and group requests for data.


Operations, Systems, controls and process improvements

  • Establishment of company and finance team performance KPIs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and ongoing improvement of finance controls, taking an active part in risk identification and management.
  • Support the Finance Director to develop opportunities for optimising existing business processes.
  • Facilitate monthly Finance Change Committee to drive collaboration across finance and continually drive process improvement and finance service delivery.
  • Support change initiatives across the organisation in a sustainable way.
  • Provide decision support on process improvements substantiated with relevant analysis and evidence.


Commercial & Business Support

  • Support the Business Partners and their Regional Management teams.
  • Work closely with the Investment Committee to ensure appropriate budgeting and cashflows as required.
  • Lead and manage the quarterly reforecasting and Annual Budgeting process.
  • Challenge drivers, assumptions and the basis of models built on an ongoing basis for improvement.


Team Management

  • Be the glue of an end-to-end finance function, from financial planning through to payment releases and contract negotiations, ensure teams are communicating and working together as needed.
  • Manage, coach and develop a small core management team.
  • Facilitate monthly Finance Change Committee to drive collaboration across finance and continually drive process improvement and finance service delivery.
  • Deputise for the Director of Finance as required.
  • Instil a culture of continuous improvement and development across finance, help enable team members to make improvements.


Requirements

  • Data gatherer with reporting and analytical skills, strong value in the integrity of information
  • Experience and knowledge of good practice internal controls and processes
  • A proven track record of delivering results with resource constrictions
  • Capable to represent finance on any committee/initiative
  • Qualified Accountant ACA, ACCA or CIMA
  • Charity sector experience
