Job description

As Head of Projects and Change you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your expertise in project management across a portfolio of business critical projects and combine this with a leadership ability that will not only manage and develop a team of business analysts but will also matrix manage resources in the delivery our ambitions transformation plans. As Head of Projects and Change you will manage a portfolio of projects along with the nominated business owner to ensure they deliver to the business case and on time and to budget.

About the Role

  • To work with key business stakeholders across the organisation to manage a portfolio of digital and other transformation projects through the project lifecycle to delivery their business value, including the resource dependencies and project inter-dependencies
  • To directly manage and develop a team of business analysts to enable the delivery of the agreed projects along with enabling the effective allocation of resource both from internal and external technical resources but also from across the business to ensure the end to end delivery of each project
  • To facilitate the on-going communication and prioritisation of the portfolio roadmap, taking into account any agreed changes to plans and scheduling
  • To ensure the delivery of the business case benefits and the smooth transition of the project into support and into an agreed programme of continuous improvement
  • To mature a portfolio and project delivery methodology and standards (e.g. stage gates, change control, planning, reporting, transition…) to achieve desired project outcomes, on time, budget and to the agreed scope and quality
  • To ensure that each project links to the data architecture and data outcomes supporting our data centric organisational ambitions
  • Where appropriate, to undertake discovery and scoping workshops to support the clarification of requirements or confirm a project scope
  • Contributes to the identification and analysis of potential future initiatives as part of the organisation's mission and transformation ambitions
  • Be a role model and ambassador for our values and to the spirit of the Team.



About You

  • Exceptional proven track record of Project &/or programme management delivery of technology based change projects; leading projects through their full life cycle to meet the project objectives within scope, budget, and schedule constraints
  • Experience of multi-project delivery in a data centric organisation but also where there is a strong operational and research emphasis (with knowledge of a clinical/medical environment being advantageous but not a pre-requisite)
  • Able to manage multiple projects in an interconnected way to deliver a larger, more strategic outcome
  • Excellent knowledge of project management delivery methods and frameworks, and programme and project governance and controls
  • A proven track record of PMO management, leading the team to meet demands of the business by providing & enhancing the assurance role & reporting schedules
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels, including with our executive team
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate project/programme information management systems for allocated projects ensuring they are fit for purpose to a range of audiences
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, drive, and initiative
  • Has a demonstrable understanding of the importance of data as an underpinning part of any project's output
  • Detail focus, able to deliver all work to Project Management policy and standards, and administer, facilitate, and manage appropriate project processes and documentation - including project change management, project planning and scheduling, and risk/issue management.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • The ability to naturally negotiate, influence, challenge, and gain commitment, with broad business perspective and acumen
  • People & Leadership skills - communications, leadership and talent development skills.
  • Experience in managing and influencing key stakeholders across a business
