Job description

HR Project Lead

Immediate start

Permanent

Salary between £42,000 - £45,000 per annum

Public Sector

Initially remote

I am delighted to be working exclusively once again with this really interesting quasi-government client in their bid to find their next HR Policy Lead on a permanent basis.

Reporting into the Senior HR Business Partner, the HR Project Lead will be responsible for planning, reporting and monitoring the delivery of training programmes required for HR to meet the current needs of the organisation. This will initially require working primarily with Operations to prioritise training requests, plan the delivery of training courses and reporting on status

This role will work collaboratively with Operations, and wider business stakeholders, and so must be able to influence effectively with client groups and manage upwards. The role will blend expert knowledge of best practice with a clear understanding of project management.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning- for project managing the overall L&D Plan, and for tracking the delivery of, and regular reporting of, all training needs
  • Delivery - Manage the direct delivery of assigned projects from within the L&D Project Plan, working closely with functional leads and the Training Manager who will be responsible for leading the L&D team, budget and resource allocation
  • Work closely with the HR team to ensure projects work alongside BAU delivery, as well as ensuring changes are effectively communicated to the wider business
  • Produce well structured, high quality project plans showing risks and dependencies and reports and / or papers for SLT and stakeholders, outlining recommendations for feedback / agreement (balancing the need for sufficient information to inform, in a short and concise format)
  • Must be driven, self-motivated, and proactive, so as to be the driving force behind project delivery (taking personal ownership for finding routes to success)
  • Be able to problem solve effectively, and know when to balance autonomous decision making with the risk of wider implications (and so escalate)
  • Be able to quickly get to grips with new and potentially complex topics, so as to be able to assess risks and opportunities, and become a 'subject matter expert' for a project (e.g. apprenticeships)
  • Be able to quickly build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, who may often change, and where there is no direct control over, so as to ensure project success by engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Identifying and monitoring (and escalating, where needed) risks to delivery
  • Lead project implementation review meetings for L&D with the L&D Manager and ensure lessons learnt are captured and embedded, creating a culture of continuous improvement
  • Identify opportunities for further L&D improvement (or risk mitigation) projects, using research and own knowledge / insight to make recommendations for changing existing L&D processes, tools, systems and ways of working

Skills and experience required

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong ability to influence
  • Ability to matrix manage project teams
  • Self-motivated, highly organised with the ability to react quickly to changing circumstances
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to produce high quality work within challenging time constraints
  • The ability to develop effective relationships and work with colleagues at all levels across the Organisation
  • Think critically through their work and continuously strive to gain a deeper understanding of subject matter
  • Understanding of Oracle or other ERP system
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to present information and data in a clear visual form
  • Proven experience in managing projects which are in urgent need of recovery
  • Project management qualification or experience
