Job description
My client a leading financial services is currently looking for a IT Operation Team Lead/ Senior IT Operations Engineer to provide hands on management of the IT Operations team.
The role is looking for someone who is still "hands on technically" who can provide leadership by example and to also be the Technical Escalation point for the team.
This role could also suit perhaps a Senior Operations Analyst / Engineer who is looking to move into a leadership role.
It is essential that this person is still strong technically and can be recognised as the technical expert about all aspects of the teams work
Qualification and Requirements
Experience of running an IT Operations functions in a Team Lead/Senior Engineer or Manager function
Good technical grounding in Windows enterprise, Unix, virtualisation and networking technologies.
A solid understanding of IT security principles and practical experience of IT security controls.
ITIL knowledge.
Experience of working with 3rd parties and outsourced services.
Experience of managing monitoring solutions
Experience in automating tasks via coding to remove repeatable tasks
Experience of AWS migrations and running services in AWS
Knowledge of the concepts of information security, and of current and emerging IT security, data protection and information risk principles and technologies.
Knowledge of security monitoring, prevention and control systems including anti-virus, web proxies and security software.
Experience of enterprise backup products (e.g. Veritas NetBackup).

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Management
Provide hands on management of the IT Operations team.
Manage the IT Operations team with a large amount of independence, either directly or through subordinates.
Be recognised as the technical expert about all aspects of the teams work and IT Operation's processes, tools and operating rhythm.
Devise policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure best practice for your teams' functional area. Monitor and ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to, with a keen appreciation of audit and regulatory compliance.
Understand the Business and IT strategy, and help your team to understand how their role supports this.
Retain, develop and, where necessary, recruit a high-performing team. Develop and mentor more junior staff in your team. Facilitate cross-training and technical development. Act as technical escalation for the IT Operations team.
Cover for team members by exception, but when required, on shifts and weekends.
Prioritise, track and remove blockers for IT operations workload.
Operations
Coordinate IT Operations to ensure a seamless, high quality service.
Operate the systems spread across on-premise, Hybrid Cloud and Public Cloud providers.
This includes the implementation of change requests, hardware and disk space monitoring, file transfers / data replication, data backup / archiving, running operational processes on Windows and UNIX platforms, production of daily service status reports and assisting other IT teams with general support
Ensure all system events are integrated via event management tooling to ensure notification of incidents outside of business hours.
Drive use of automation for efficiency of IT operations tasks and reduction of repeatable tasks. Develop automated recovery actions for business-critical systems
Maintain and improve vulnerability position of estate through use of appropriate measures and ensuring all systems are maintained across all security tool sets.
Ensure availability, integrity, and security of all data, regardless of hosting platform
Coordinate capacity planning across the IT to ensure that the IT estate is appropriately sized.
Coordinate all Service Continuity (DR) planning and testing for IT, ensuring Business Continuity and regulatory requirements are met.
Control the physical security, maintenance schedules to the production and DR data centres globally. Ensure data centre standards are followed (e.g. tidy patching, cleanliness, granting of access)
