Investigo Government Solutions have partnered with Guernsey Police to recruit Police Inspectors/Detective Inspectors as part of their ongoing expansion. These are permanent opportunities with competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a four-year additional relocation allowance.
Summary of the position:
Police Inspectors/Detective Inspectors play a central role in leading frontline policing in Guernsey. They are responsible for managing teams of Sergeants, Constables, and staff, ensuring effective operational response to critical incidents, community priorities, and pre-planned events.
This is a senior operational role that combines incident command responsibilities with team leadership, welfare, and performance management. Inspectors are expected to work closely with other emergency services, partner agencies, and the community to keep the Bailiwick safe, prevent crime, and deliver a professional and trusted policing service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and motivate teams, upholding the highest ethical and professional standards.
- Take command of critical incidents, ensuring appropriate deployment of resources and risk management.
- Oversee custody, detention, and identification processes in line with PPACE.
- Manage operational policing activity, balancing competing priorities and demands.
- Work with JESCC and other emergency services to deliver joined-up, effective incident responses.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, partners, and stakeholders.
- Ensure the welfare, development, and performance of Sergeants and Constables under your command.
- Act as an initial tactical firearms commander, maintaining operational accreditation.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in policing practices.
Key Skills / Experience Required:
- Substantial operational policing experience at Sergeant rank or above.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with proven experience leading teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire trust and confidence.
- Sound decision-making ability under pressure, applying the National Decision Model.
- Knowledge of legislation, policy, and professional policing practice.
- Commitment to wellbeing, inclusivity, and upholding policing values.
- Flexibility to work shifts, provide on-call cover, and adapt to organisational needs.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
- At least two years as a substantive Sergeant.
- Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Award (or equivalent).
- Initial Tactical Firearms Command (ITFC) accreditation (or willingness to complete in post).
- Investigative experience and/or PiP Level 2 or above.
- Breadth of policing experience across multiple portfolios.
