Job description
Are you a serving Police Sergeant or Detective Sergeant looking for a fresh challenge? Or an experienced officer ready to step into a leadership role in a unique, rewarding environment where your work truly makes a difference?
Investigo Government Solutions have partnered with Guernsey Police as part of their continued investment in frontline and investigative leadership. We are seeking experienced Police Sergeants and Detective Sergeants to join the Force on a permanent basis. This is a rare opportunity to work in a close-knit, professional policing environment with an attractive benefits package and a four-year relocation allowance.
Summary of the Position:
Police Sergeants and Detective Sergeants play a vital role within Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement, providing first-line supervision and leadership across both uniformed and investigative teams. These roles are central to maintaining the island's reputation for exceptional policing, community engagement, and professional standards.
Whether leading a response team on the front line or managing complex investigations, you'll ensure that every member of your team delivers high-quality policing with integrity and professionalism. Working closely with Inspectors, you'll provide guidance, mentorship, and operational direction - supporting your officers to deliver excellence every day.
This is policing as it should be - visible, community-focused, and built on genuine leadership and pride in service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide first-line supervision and direction to uniformed or investigative officers, ensuring operational effectiveness and adherence to policy.
- Take command of incidents or investigations, applying sound judgement and leadership under pressure.
- Oversee and develop investigations, ensuring accurate, timely, and ethical outcomes.
- Support the development, performance, and wellbeing of officers under your supervision.
- Undertake Custody Officer duties when required, ensuring welfare and compliance with legislation.
- Engage positively with partner agencies and the community to enhance public confidence and crime prevention.
- Maintain high standards of integrity, professionalism, and conduct at all times.
Key Skills / Experience Required:
- Substantive Police Sergeant or Detective Sergeant (or currently acting at that rank).
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience within operational or investigative policing.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, able to build trust and credibility with colleagues and the community.
- High standard of written reporting, case management, and organisational skills.
- Flexibility to work across a 24/7 shift pattern and adapt to operational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in response, neighbourhood, or investigative policing.
- Experience mentoring or coaching officers, with a commitment to professional development.
- Comprehensive understanding of legislation, codes of practice, and evidence handling.
- Current valid driving licence.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting time to join Guernsey Police, where you'll find a forward-thinking, professional, and values-driven Force. With low crime levels and a genuine focus on quality policing, Guernsey offers the chance to lead, develop, and truly influence the delivery of community safety.
In return, you'll receive:
- Police Sergeant Scale + Hampshire Allowance
- 20% flat income tax
- Comprehensive relocation support for up to four years
- Excellent career development and wellbeing support
If you're looking for a leadership role that combines professional challenge with an exceptional quality of life, this could be your next step.
