Job description

Rail Project Manager

Key Accountabilities

  1. Deliver low-complexity projects or components of complex projects safely and responsibly, in line with GRIP, Network Rail standards, legislation, and HMRI guidance.
  2. Support the Project Sponsor in defining project requirements.
  3. Manage multi-disciplinary teams to identify solutions and establish robust baseline plans.
  4. Identify and manage project risks, implementing mitigations and responding to emerging issues.
  5. Develop and maintain resource allocation plans, securing internal and external resources.
  6. Manage stakeholder relationships, considering influence and interests.
  7. Lead project reviews to inform governance decisions, evaluating progress, risk, and relevance.
  8. Establish and manage change control protocols and configuration updates.
  9. Support accident investigations when delegated by the designated competent person.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • Membership (or working towards) of the Association for Project Management.
  • PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Relevant experience in contracting and project delivery.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Sound evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of project safety management and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Understanding of safety cases in support of projects.

Desirable:

  • Rail industry experience, including GRIP and CDM application.
  • Familiarity with Network Rail's project, investment, commercial, and procurement practices.
  • Experience in risk identification and mitigation.
  • Flexible, proactive approach and team-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail's assets and asset management practices.
