Senior Project Manager - Permanent

North West England

Our client in the North West is looking to strengthen their PPM capability and as a result have asked us to recruit Project Managers to help on the journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full responsibility for the definition, documentation, management and successful completion of a assigned projects including large complex projects (typically with a managed budget of in excess of £250K, greater than 12 months in duration and spanning multiple business functions) or a set of related projects / programme, typically with significant business, strategic, or high-profile impact, and high-risk dependencies.
  • Plan, direct, and co-ordinate activities to manage and implement assigned projects from contract /proposal initiation to final operational stage including the transition into "business-as-usual"; plans, schedules, monitors, and reports on activities related to the projects.
  • Select methods and tools, using iterative techniques where appropriate, ensuring that effective project control, change control, risk management and testing and transition management processes are maintained.
  • Monitor and control resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders
  • Maintain project files from supplied actual and forecast data.
  • Ensure that projects are managed to realise business benefits and that project delivery is informed by an awareness of current technical developments
  • Support project control boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings.
  • Support the IS&T Governance processes to ensure clarity and accuracy of all submissions to the appropriate committee / board.
  • Use project control solutions for planning, scheduling and tracking as outlined by the IS&T Project Delivery Process.
  • Provide administrative services to project / programme boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings.
  • Provide guidance, as required, to the IST Portfolio Manager on portfolio, programme and project management software, procedures, processes, tools and techniques.
  • Maintain a full working knowledge of all IS&T Project Delivery Processes and Templates and to champion their use amongst IS&T Project Managers.
  • Provide support to the IS&T Portfolio Manager in prioritising and scheduling the IS&T projects and programme portfolio.
  • Assist with the compilation of portfolio, programme and project management reports.
  • Provide guidance and skills mentoring to IS&T Project Managers to ensure best practices and knowledge is shared.
  • Undertake other tasks as directed by the IS&T Portfolio Manager.

Essential skills:

  • Holds a professional qualification (APM, MSP or PgMP or studying to achieve).
  • At least 5 years' experience in a full lifecycle Project or Programme Management role, working across multiple dimensions, (infrastructure, software development, 3rd party applications, etc.), managing large complex projects and programmes.
    • Demonstrates strong planning and organising skills.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of best project and programme management techniques and practices
    • Good knowledge of other best practice & standards such as ITIL, SDLC, ISO9000, ISO27001
    • Strong understanding of business strategies, cost drivers and efficiencies
    • Experience in customer requirements analysis and translating to operational and functional specifications
    • Experience in solution identification and selection through recommended tender processes to support the customer in procuring / deploying the most appropriate solution.
    • Experience of providing support in a large corporate environment and of working with customers at all levels.
    • Effective leadership, interpersonal skills and an ability to command respect to create a sense of community amongst the members of the project teams.
    • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including skills in hosting demonstrations and training.
    • Demonstrable experience of forward planning, problem solving, analytical thinking, providing solutions via email, telephone, Teams and face-to-face.
    • Experience of working with IT staff from front line to developers, and clients from SME to end users and business managers.
    • Good team worker but able to work under own initiative
