Investigo Network Event | Securing Your Next Executive Role

Mark Hartshorne, Director at Mark Hartshorne Limited, joined us as a key speaker for our Investigo Network breakfast event which took place at the South Place Hotel on Wednesday 22nd November. With extensive recruitment background and an established business in career transition and outplacement coaching, Mark’s talk focused on ‘Securing Your Next Executive Role,’ providing Senior Level Executives valuable tools and tactics to be successful in their job search.

Mark classed the job application process as a ‘A Game of Three Halves’ which includes ‘Positioning and Planning,’ ‘Tools and Tactics’ and ‘The Journey’. When applying for your next role, it is important to consider six different routes to market – recruiters, network, direct approach, temporary to permanent opportunities, other intermediaries and self-employment. With these different opportunities in mind, it is important to consider how your personal style is portrayed on your CV, LinkedIn profile and in an interview.

The first thing recruiters analyse on a candidate’s CV is their employment history therefore, ensuring that this information is comprehensive and up to date is key. The information within a CV should include your employment history, a summary of past roles as well as quantifiable achievements.

Mark describes LinkedIn as a ‘very powerful tool - being visible on LinkedIn is key, visibility means being seen and noticed by head-hunters.’ To make yourself visible, you should be part of relevant groups and active on appropriate conversations. It is also essential to have a professional LinkedIn profile photo as it plays a significant role in determining whether you land a job.

In an interview you must consider your demeanour, delivery and content as the main objective is to show the interviewer what desirable skills you have. It is important to believe in yourself when applying for your next role and believe that other people are willing to help.

This breakfast event was part of a range of Investigo Network events being held to bring insight to our clients and candidates on topics that are relevant in today’s business world.
