Senior Finance Leadership Networking Event Oxford

Investigo were proud to partner with KPMG and Lloyds Banking Group to host their third Senior Finance Leadership Networking Event. Held at the stylish Milton Hill House in Oxfordshire, elite leaders from across the region gathered to network over breakfast and to hear insight from Workplace Pensions Specialist, Alex McCallum from Scottish Widows and Tom Alden from Commit2Inspire.

Alex McCallum, from Scottish Widows, opened the event to address the imminent changes to the mandatory workplace pension contributions, highlighting the impact that it is set to have on the business world. Scottish Widows conducted a ‘Pensions Awareness Tour’, with the reaction to workplace pensions amongst employees ranging from overwhelmed to disengaged. Feedback suggested that lack of knowledge, coloured by headline grabbing pension scandals and complicated annual statements, fuel the confusion surrounding pensions for your average employee. With 44% of Brits currently not saving adequately for their retirement, the challenges facing the employer is about raising awareness across their workforce, as well as the direct cost impact that the provision of a workplace pension has on an individual business.

Ex-Royal Marine, Tom Alden Founder of Commit2Inspire and TLA Fitness, followed with his session on values. Using his own personal values, alongside those instilled during his training as a Commando, he looked at how important the impact of shared values can be. From commando training in the CS Gas chamber through to being dropped in a combat zone, Tom explained how important it was that his own values aligned with that of the business, and how it positively affected his own performance and that of the team. Tom also emphasised the importance of how clearly communicated values by the Royal Marines helped to guide and reassure the team to successfully reach common goals. He quoted Disney co-founder Roy Disney, “When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier”, leaving our guests to contemplate on their own personal values and how they can positively affect their businesses and teams.
