Consultant Spotlight - Liam Thomas
Welcome to Consultant Spotlight, a series where we shine a light on the talented professionals driving success at Investigo. In each edition, we get to know one of our consultants a little better, diving into their background, expertise, and the impact they’re making across the business.
This time, we’re excited to introduce Liam Thomas, whose expertise in senior finance recruitment across the UK and mainland Europe continues to play a key role in our success at Investigo.
Can you outline your role as a recruiter?
I have circa 12 years experience in Finance recruitment and the majority in the UK. Last year I decided I wanted a new challenge and opted to try and replicate our teams success in the UK across mainland Europe. Since then I have had a focus on recruiting senior level roles into PE backed and listed clients across the Benelux, DACH and Nordic regions.
What types of roles/ specific areas or industries do you find yourself recruiting for?
My main area of focus is senior level finance roles. Recent mandates have included a Group Financial Controller, an FP&A Director role and a EMEA Finance Director. These have typically been within high growth companies or within businesses going through transformation. We have seen a big surge in the need for strong FP&A talent across Europe and this looks like a key area of focus moving forward.
Can you share a success story where you helped a candidate land a role that was a perfect fit for them?
One recent success story has been the placement of a Group Financial Controller at a fast growing fintech in Amsterdam. The candidate was unfortunately made redundant from a large corporate earlier in the year and was finding the senior market slow. After a briefing with the Fintech’s CFO, he wanted someone who know what good looked like to help him build this new finance team. I instantly thought the two would get on extremely well!
After an introduction and 3 very successful interviews, the candidate had started in under a month of the process starting – leaving both candidate and client delighted with their new challenge.
How do you see the future of recruitment evolving in the next few years?
I feel recruitment is moving away from the transactional model of supplying CVs for roles – competing against other agencies meaning whoever sends cvs fastest has success to a consultative long term partnership model. Clients and candidates alike want consultative advice around projects or changes they are looking to undertake from a trusted recruitment partner who is a specialist in their field. This coupled with using tech and Ai effectively will bring the best results.
How do you stay current with industry trends and recruitment best practices?
I stay current by speaking with my senior network of candidates, trying to be as inquisitive as possible about what they are seeing in the market. As well as this I read articles on industry trends in finance. I also speak to competitors regularly, getting an idea on how they work what they are hearing and seeing and then combining it all.
If you’re a business looking for proven finance leadership or a candidate seeking your next senior role across the Benelux, DACH, or Nordic regions, Liam is here to help. His consultative approach ensures long-term partnerships, matching the right people with the right opportunities.
