Senior Accountant
£50,000 plus bonus and benefits
Hybrid working / North London

My client is looking for an experienced Accountant to join their Group in order to take responsibility of all aspects of the group's tax function, including VAT, corporation tax, capital allowances, new developments, registration and tax administration. You do not need be qualified or have experience in corporation tax however need to be a quick learner, inquisitive, solutions focussed and have experience with VAT returns.

Scope of the Role:

  • Sitting within the central function of the group
  • Responsible for producing annual tax computations in conjunction with the external auditors/advisors
  • Understanding the groups tax position and risk
  • Preparation of annual tax returns
  • Being the group's tax expert for ad hoc queries
  • Supporting the Finance team in best practice in relation to tax
  • Financial accounting support


Key Accountabilities:

Taxation

  • VAT
    • Preparation and submission quarterly VAT returns for the group
    • Review postings into the VAT Control accounts
    • Reconcile VAT control accounts ensuring correct payment to HMRC
    • Make payment request to Cashbook and ensuring payments are made promptly
    • Work together with other departments to ensure correct VAT treatment
    • Understanding VAT consequences of products sold and updating till buttons periodically
  • Corporation tax
    • Preparation of annual tax packs for external tax advisors
    • Preparation of the corporation tax expense calculations for the year end accounts
    • Preparation of the year end deferred tax calculations
    • Forecasting payments on account and ensuring these are paid on time
    • Review postings into the Corporation tax accounts
  • Working with tax advisors on capital allowances calculations
  • Working with the Payroll team on the annual PSA return
  • Assist with the SAO framework and best practice, ensuring sufficient self-review of internal controls relating to taxation
  • Assist with writing the annual tax strategy
  • Employment related securities (ERS) filing
  • Ensuring tax risks are documented and communicated regularly
  • Aspects of property tax, including option to tax
  • Research of new legislative changes and follow up project work
  • Any ad hoc tax issues which may arise

Company secretarial and other

  • Ensuring all companies house filings for all group companies are submitted on time
  • Drafting statutory minutes for all group companies
  • Assistance with the annual renewal of insurance
  • Ad hoc assistance with the year-end statutory accounting and group audit


Requirements

Part Qualified Accountant or Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or finalist. Proven experience working in a tax or finance role, either in an accounting practice or within a commercial organisation. Ideally you will have an understanding of current tax issues and how to manage tax risk. A track record for dealing with issues.
